Browns Canyon National Monument
Browns Canyon National Monument is an approximately 22,000 acre wilderness area located between Buena Vista and Salida in Chaffee County. This area, designated by President Obama on February 19, 2015, features century-old granite cliffs and meadows dusted with Pinyon Pines and Sagebrush. It is located along the Collegiate Peaks amongst some of Colorado’s tallest mountains. The Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service jointly manages this popular wilderness area, along with Colorado Park and Wildlife for its river-based activities. This unique segment of land not only features miles of hiking trails and spectacular views, but also towers over the Arkansas River; a destination for world class whitewater rafting and fishing.
